We spent almost 4 months in Canggu because of the pandemy covid-19 and we are extremely grateful for that. It is an area of the most beautiful villas, stylish cafes and the most delicious warungs (traditional Indonesian cheap restaurant). There are beaches ideal for beginner surfers and sunset lovers.

Must things to do and see in Canggu

1. Spend time on the beach

In Canggu, there are beaches ideal for beginner surfers, as there are medium-sized waves and lots of instructors (the price per instructor and board is around 350k IDR). One of our most favorite beaches were  Canggu, Batu Bulong or beach Pererenan.

Stay on the beach until the  sunset, as we have seen there some of the most beautiful sunsets ever 🙂 For lovers of nightlife, there are famous beach clubs such as La Brisa, Echo beach club or Finns Beach club.

2. Temple Tanah Lot

Tanah Lot is a Hindu temple located on a rock and offers a beautiful panorama. Unfortunately, we didn’t get there because of covid-19, but we will definitely visit it next time.

3. Raya Batu Mejan Street

The street between the rice fields is ideal for an afternoon or evening walk (beautiful sunrise and sunset). If you are lucky enough and have good visibility, you will see volcanoes in the distance (see photo).

Best restaurants and cafes in Canggu

1. Warungs

Warung has become close toour hearts. Warungs in Canggu are mostly in buffet style, so you can choose exactly what you want on your plate. Our favorites one were Warung Sika (we paid around 20k IDR – 1,2 EUR), Warung Bu Mi (approx. 25 IDR), Warung Local (approx. 35 IDR) or Warung Bu Sri (approx. 35 IDR).

2. Lola´s Cantina Mexicana

This is the best Mexican restaurant we’ve ever visited! Their burrito and taco bowl are absolutely fabulous. And cauliflowers in buffalo sauce are must try! In addition, the staff will always welcome you with a Spanish greeting Hola, which gives it all a great atmosphere 🙂

3. Creta cafe

You can find the best salads and huge portions of toast (with avocado, egg, vegetables,  anything you can think of). Their breakfast burrito is also worth a sin! 😀 Definitely our favorite place in Canguu in ratio price/quantity ratio.

4. Ithaka Warung

One of the more expensive Warungs, but the food is really worth it. We recommend trying curry, fruit bowls or various Indonesian dishes 🙂

5. Coffee ‘n’ Oven

Looking for the best desserts in Bali? This cafe with a Czech owner will definitely not disappoint you. We especially recommend Monday’s deal coffee + dessert only for 45k IDR! You definitely have to try the raspberry cheesecake. We came back every Monday only because of it! 🙂

6. SatuSatu coffee company

Another great cafe with reasonable prices, excellent coffee and delicious food. We recommend trying pancakes and a salad with scrambled eggs and pumpkin!

8. La Pan Nam Warung and Bar

Cheap restaurant in the heart of Canggu which has varied menu and cheap prices. We definitely recommend falafel wrap and in the evening you must try a tradinional Balinese drink – arrack! It´s really cheap here 🙂

9. La Casetta

The best pizzeria in Bali! We ordered pizza from here every week because we never had enough. In addition to excellent pizza, you can also have delicious Italian pasta or wine.

How to get around Canggu

The best and cheapest way to get around is by motorbike. We rented a motorbike in Canggu for one month and paid  600k IDR/month (discount because of covidu-19, Wira services – highly recommended).

Other options are Grab (asian Uber) and Gojek. Just install the app, call your driver and that’s it.

Best hotels and villas in Canggu

Canggu is a famous tourist area in Bali, so there are a lot of hotels and villas. We stayed over 2 months in Villa Speranza as it has great facilities including kitchen, pool and large garden.

The most interesting accommodation in Canggu are for example Own Villa Bali, Villa Umalas, Berry Amour Villas or Villa Sungai.
