Uluwatu is located in the southern part of the Bali and is famous for its beaches, big waves and cliff views. We liked it so much that we extended our Uluwatu stay by another week. To be completely honest, it was also because we had motorbike accident and we waited until our feet and knees were heal and we could finally go to the sea 😀
10 must things to do and best places in Uluwatu
1. Balangan beach and viewpoint
The viewpoint offers a panoramic view of Balangan Beach, which is famous for its beautiful yellow sand and ideal waves for surfers. The lookout is very popular, so if you don’t want to wait in line for a photo, we recommend you get up early 🙂
2. Uluwatu temple
The temple is in the style of Balinese Hinduism and is located on a 70-meter high cliff. When you walk here, watch out for the monkeys. One monkey wanted to steal Aneta´s flip-flops straight from her feet, and then some of us chased us. You can only go to the temple with long pants/skirts, or it is possible to rent a traditional Balinese skirt – sarong.
3. Nyang Nyang beach
On our first visit to Nayng Nyang beach we discovered that there are two places! The beach located more on the west is approximately 1.5 km long. The views from it is amazing as it is surrounded by cliffs. However, its disadvantage is the large outflow. We recommend coming there only during high tide, otherwise you will go a few kilometres to the deeper water. Another disadvantage is the difficult descent down on the beach and the subsequent ascent back on the cliffs. The road is very steep and about 1 km long. We didn’t dare go there on a motorcycle.
The beach located more on the east is especially popular with photographers, as there is located a Japanese ship wreck. Get ready for the steep road to the beach again and the way lasts around 20 minutes. The biggest disappointment for us was the amount of wastes and discarded garbage, which were unfortunately everywhere.
4. Suluban beach
Hidden gem for tourists and favorite place for local people (especially during the weekend). Skrytý skvost pro turisty a oblíbené místo pro místní obyvatele (hlavně o víkendu). This is how we could describe Suluban Beach, which is absolutely unique. You can get to its main part only by a corridor in the rock and this is possible only during low tide. The higher the water level, the more the rock is flooded and the road becomes more dangerous!
5. Green Bowl beach
If you are lucky, you will enjoy a small and private beach for yourselves. But we were disappointed here by the large amount of garbage in the cave.
6. Cave and beach Pantai Tegal Wangi
Our favorite beach in Uluwatu because is amazing and quite hidden for tourists. Naše oblíbená pláž v Uluwatu, jelikož je úžasná a není až tak turisticky vytížená. In addition to the cave and pleasant small waves, you can enjoy the natural pools that form in the rocks during low tide.
7. Dreamland beach
Very nice and long sandy beach in Uluwatu, where we were almost alone (thanks to covid-19) 🙂 The beach is ideal for surfers, sunbathing or swimming in the sea 🙂
8. Melasti beach
The beach is located in the south part of Uluwatu. In addition to a nice sandy beach, you will also find there Palmilla Bali club. Melasti is also a popular place for watching the sunset either from the beach or from the cliffs 🙂
9. Karang Boma Cliff
Unfortunately, we did not get to the most famous cliff due to covid-19 (it was still closed). But we can definitely recommend it because of the amazing views (viz google).
10. Oneeighty – The Edge Bali
Restaurant, bar and hotel with the most amazing pool in Ulwatu! And what makes it so special? Mainly its panoramic view and the glass bottom though which which you can look down into the sea.
The best restaurants in Uluwatu
1. Warung Solo Via
Really cheap and tasty warung with a wide range of food. You can take the food which you like yourself and load as much as you are able to eat.
2. The Mango tree coffee
Little bit more expensive but very nice mexican restaurant with friendly service. They have sometimes special events like free beer for every meal 🙂
3. Suka Espresso
Place with delicious food (try burger!) and coffee.
4. District 6
Our favorite restaurants in Uluwatu because they make delicious salads (try chicken salad or tuna nicoise) and pizza!

6. He´enalu Cafe And Resto
Another nice spot where you should try their Poke bowl (traditional Hawaiian food), Loco Moco or tortillas.

Cheap Warung with tasty food and wide selection. 🙂 We can recommend chicken with vegetables and cashews on top.
How to get around Uluwatu
The best and cheapest way to get around is by motorbike. We rented a motorbike in Canggu for one month and paid 600k IDR/month (discount because of covidu-19, Wira services – highly recommended).
Other options are Grab (asian Uber) and Gojek. Just install the app, call your driver and that’s it.
Where to stay in Uluwatu
Finding accommodation in Uluwatu is really not a problem. All depend on your budget and desired location. There are plenty of hotels with sea views (usually more expensive), villas and other places to stay.
1. La Joya Biu Biu resort
Hotel located directly on a cliff with amazing sea views and a large swimming pool. You can find more information and current prices here
2. Adi Abian Villa
A place where we stayed for almost 2 weeks and we really liked it here. It is a relatively new villa with a swimming pool and friendly staff.
Other popular hotels are Gravity Bali, Dreamsea Surf camp Bali, Sal Secret spot or La Cabane.
Best time to visit Uluwatu
The weather in Uluwatu is not very different from the rest of Bali (not counting the mountains in the north), so it is best to arrive outside the rainy season from March to October. Evening rains may still occur in March.
