Select a city where we will spend our Christmas holidays was not easy. Cheap flight tickets even don’t exist during Christmas so we had to found out where we can get cheaply by bus from Singapore. It was clear! We are going to the capital city of Malaysia – Kuala Lumpur. To the city famous by Petronas Towers and a large number of skyscrapers!
How to get from Singapure to Kuala Lumpur by bus
There are several bus companies that will take you from Singapore to KL. We were searching for tickets on Easybook webpage and we chose company Eltabina Express when considering price/review ratio. Bus had comfortable seats, enough space for legs and we also got small refreshment. The journey itself was little bit longer Due to delays at the Singapore-Malaysian border and traffic jams along the way. Bus stop in KL was in the city centre called Bukit Bintag from where you can take metro, bus or walk.
Itineary of places that we visited in Kuala Lumpur
DAY 1
The first day we visited the most famous spot in KL – Petronas Twin Towers. It is a pair of skyscrapers which were from 1998 to 2004 the tallest buildings in the worlds. Building are interconnected by bridge which can only be accessed with entrance ticket :/. This day was held event Comic-con with Cosplay people in costumes so participants were everywhere around the park and they were taking pictures everywhere 😀 It was interesting variegation.
DAY 2
Compulsory visit in KL are famous Batu Caves. These are number of caves and Hindu temples that are the most popular shrines outside India. We came the early in the morning by taxi (Grab) which cost 23 MYR (5,50 USD) and the journey was 20 minutes long. We wanted to overtake the crowds of tourists and that was worth it. We were the first people there (8 am) and the first tour buses full of tourists arrived around 9 am. We looked at the temple, caves and we also saw some Hindu ceremony. We went back to the city by train from Batu Caves station to the centre of Kuala Lumpur. It was much cheaper than taxi.
We also visited Chinatown a Petaling street market on the way to our accommodation. It seemed to us like a big irony because everything was clean and organised in China but here it was one big mess and stink. We would not ordered food there. We also saw communication tower Menara KL Tower which is another typical building for KL
DAY 3
We started the next day with walk to the Wilayah mosque (Federal Territory Mosque) which is known for its unique architecture and decorations. It combines elements of Egyptian, Malaysian, Turkish or Moroccan styles which make it absolutely unique. Anet had to changed clothes and wear their traditional suit and then we had to take 40 minutes long tour of mosque. We don’t like organised tours but you have to take it if you want to see the mosque from the inside and it was completely free.
Then we moved to the buddhist Thean Hou Temple that reminded us small version of Lama Temple which is located in Beijing. We were there almost alone and there was no entrance fee. Even nobody was checking dress code!
In the evening we went to the popular street market called Jalan Alor Night Food Court which is full of Thai restaurants. We ordered Pad Thai because we miss him so much!
And how did we spend Christmas?
Malaysia is a muslim country but there was Christmas decorations around KL, shopping malls were playing Christmas carols to our surprise and the only think we lacked was snow (cold). We spent Christmas evening in Hilton hotel, watched Love Actually and ate cookies 😀 Our first Christmas away from home…
Excited about Kuala Lumpur? Do you want to visit this city? Honestly for us it was little bit disappointing. On the one side there ale luxury skyscrapers and shopping malls but on the other side dirty and smelly streets. We met lot of homeless, beggars and other strange people. If you live in the city centre from example in Platinum you will love this city. But if you live and go further you will not understand how a city with so many skyscrapers can have problem with poverty, pollution and stinks.
