Amed was the biggest surprise for us from the all parts of Bali. Here you can find amazing snorkeling and diving spots, black sand beaches and beachfront accommodation. A few kilometers away you will enjoy views of the highest Balinese mountain – the volcano Agung. You can eat fresh fish from local fishermen and young coconut, which Balinese consider as a panacea 🙂
6 TOP Must visit places 6 in Amed and East part of Bali
1. Observing underwater life in Amed
Amed is a famous destination for diving and snorkeling. Just a few meters from the beach you can find amazing underwater life with colorful corals, various fishes and even turtles. The most popular snorkeling destinations include the Japanese ship wreck, Jemeluk Bay, where is an underwater mailbox, the beach at Kembali Bungalows Reef, where you can also meet turtles or Lipah Beach. Another popular place for snorkeling is located about 20 minutes from Amed and is the wreck of the ship Tulamben.
2. Pura Lempuyang temple
One of the most famous and oldest Hindu temples in Bali is located on the Mount Lempuyang. The most famous temple is the gate, from which it is possible to observe Mount Agung (when is good visibility). Tourists are photographed here using a mirror, which gives the temple a floating effect. When entering the temple, it is necessary to have covered feet. So either get ready for it or borrow a traditional sarong skirt at the entrance. Admission is voluntary, on a donation basis.
3. Lahangan Sweet Viewpoint
Amazing view of the Agung volcano, which we recommend combining with a visit to the Lempuyang Temple. Admission is voluntary and the only disadvantage is the driveway, which starts to be very wild and dangerous around 800m to the finish. If you are not confident enough on a motorbike, park it under the hill and rather walk.
4. Water Palace Taman Tirta Gangga
The former royal palace is named after the Indian river Gangga, which is considered to be sacred in Hinduism. The palace has gardens and ponds where are huge colorful koi fishes. Watching and feeding Koi fishes became the main tourist attractions and you can buy fish food before entering the palace where are several stalls.
5. Bukit Cinta Viewpoint
The view of the Agung volcano and the rice fields are the most beautiful places in the eastern Bali. You will find the viewpoint location here. We recommend coming here during the sunrise, because the top of Agung is beautifully lit and usually is the best visibility in the morning (often hidden behind the clouds).
6. Black Sand Beach
There are several black sand beaches in Bali from Canggu to Amed. But this beach is special because it is not so popular with tourists, you can only get there on a bamboo ladder and the sand is beautifully fine. You will find the exact place location here
Best restaurants in Amed
Warung Osin
Our favorite Warung in Amed for a single meal – Ikan Kelapa. We absolutely fell in love with fresh fish with ginger, lemon grass and coconut sauce.
Warung Sridana
Excellent and wide selection of food in addition to friendly service. We liked the most here curry, grilled mahi mahi and Arak attack (with lemon and honey).
The best budget accomodation in Amed
Alur beach Homestay
We can definitely recommend the Alur Homestay, which is located directly on the beach. We could watch the sunrise and sunset from there, have breakfast with a sea view or enjoy snorkeling only 200 metres from hotel door
If you are looking for something more luxurious, take a look at Melasti Beach Bungalows, Vienna Beach Resort or Villa Aquamarine
How to move around Amed and surroundings
The best and cheapest way to move around Amed is on a motorbike. Grab (Asian Uber) and Gojek also work well in Bali but not sure if also in Amed.
